OKAY GUYS METROCON IS GOING TO REAR ITS UGLY HEAD SOON-ISH. LET'S GET A-PLANNIN'.
I kind of have an idea of how we can run the panel, but I'd appreciate assistance in making this the best dang panel evarz.
I was thinking of having the panel go like this:
- Introduce ourselves and talk about, well, what the panel is about.
- Hiragana, katakana. How they're used, how they're pronounced, etc.
- How to write your name in Japanese
- Numbers (which can lead to learning how to say how old you are)
- Basic greetings (ohayou, konnichiwa, etc.)
- How to introduce yourself in Japanese using what was covered
- Misc. sentences/vocabulary that are good to know (otearai wa dokodesuka, etc.)
- Recommend books to help with learning Japanese.
For this, we'll need:
- worksheets with hiragana and katakana charts, numbers, greetings, sentences, etc.
- prizes to encourage participation, like Pocky or Ramen (most likely the latter because, well, it's cheap)
- something to present information, like display boards or something. See what I put for worksheets, and put it on larger, prettier things.
- more people to help out with this besides myself. I'd rather not be the only one talking for the entire hour. :<
This is just a rough idea of what I'd like to do during the panel, and I'm up for suggestions!

I'd also love to have some get-togethers to get more specific lesson plans together sometime before Metrocon.
